The Police Hint at Final Show

    A fundraiser in …

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a press conference with the Police today, announcing that the band's final show will be held in New York City this summer. While the gig's venue and date are still unknown, Bloomberg said it'll be a fundraiser benefiting the arts programming on two public television stations: Thirteen/WNET and WLIW New York, both of which will offer tickets soon. The Police also agreed to donate $1 million to the MillionTreesNYC initiative, a plan to plant trees throughout the city.

"Some people may be surprised to know that the greatest single contribution to greenhouse gases is deforestation," Sting explained. "We all want cleaner and cooler air, and planting trees is the best way to achieve that.

The Police singer added, "We have a long history in New York. We came here first in 1978. We want to leave a gift that will last for decades."

"We hope the donation by the Police will inspire many more people to get involved," Bloomberg said. " A lot of people make a lot of money, spend a little bit of it, and don’t give any of it away. So these guys are role models."

When pressed about the location of the concert, Bloomberg offered one hint: "The venue will probably be indoors, but that's all I'm going to say."
