"Pirates" director to translate video game
The film is based on the super-smash Take-Two released video game, which has sold over two million copies worldwide since its August bow, in addition to winning several awards. The game, and presumably the film, takes place in an underwater free city called Rapture. The game centers around a pilot who has a crash landing at the secret entrance of the city and is subsequently engulfed in the power struggles taking place in Rapture, which is ultimately a utopia gone wrong.
No production dates have been set, but word is Verbinski is ready to roll as soon as the script is complete. In the meantime, Take-Two plans to release a second edition of the video game by 2009, before the film hits theaters. It's also worth noting that if your hand-eye coordination and gamer skills are sub-par, it's movies like these that allow you to enjoy the visual artistry and storylines of popular, enticing games.
