The dramatic political biopic The Prince of Providence is taking shape. Robin Williams is in talks to take a role in the picture, joining a cast that already includes Dermot Mulroney, Adam Goldberg, Oliver Platt, and Edward Burns.

The film will trace the rise and fall of Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, the corrupt former mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, and is adapted from a 2003 book about Cianci's questionable political career. Cianci's career lasted an astounding 21 years and spanned two terms; the first ended with his resignation after an assault charge. Cianci was the longest serving mayor in the city's history before he was taken down on federal criminal charges including conspiracy, bribery, extortion, mail fraud, and witness tampering. Filming begins in Rhode Island in late summer. Williams will join the film provided his schedule fits the production timeline.
