"Kinky Boots" To Kick Broadway's Ass

    Thu, 10 Jul 2008 09:47:30

2006 Brit comedy eyed for stage

Kinky Boots, the indie British comedy about a struggling shoe factory that stays in business by manufacturing fetish footwear, is being fashioned for Broadway by producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, who acquired the film's rights.

Although the film, originally released by Miramax in 2006, is a comedy with sparse musical moments, the producers feel they can explore the film's complex emotional moments and transform the movie into a musical fit for the stage. They're courting director Jerry Mitchell, who helmed Broadway's version of the hit comedy Legally Blonde.
