Josh Hartnett is suing London's The Daily Mirror over its story that he engaged in a sex romp with an unidentified woman in the library of a London hotel, allegedly captured by a security camera. The actor, who is in the UK to star in a stage version of Rain Man, and his lawyers are demanding a public apology and damages for defamation. Hartnett claims that the incident in question did not occur and is a total fabrication by the paper. He also stated in a televised interview that had the tape existed, it would have been on the internet by now.
In other legal news, a New York judge has tossed out lawsuits devised by a driving instructor and two etiquette school teachers who claimed they were duped by the filmmakers behind Borat. Judge Loretta Preska says that the three plaintiffs accepted money and signed releases to appear in a "documentary-style" film and, therefore, the claims that they were mislead are nullified.
