Predating the 1990s international dance music explosion by several years, Information Society took a decidedly European approach to synth pop music, creating songs as much at home on FM radio as on the dancefloor. Fully embracing new studio technology, the then controversial art of sampling, and combining them with catchy hooks, the Minneapolis group became the U.S. response to New Order. Though the group scored only one major hit, the pulsing "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)," Information Society's dance innovations (including ripples and riffs now old hat to many dance producers) are to be highly commended. Included in this collection are three bonus tracks, including a looser remix of that very hit from Junior Vasquez. Lesser-known tracks worthy of rediscovery here include the new romantic disco of "Running" and the sensitive but not too sappy ballad "Repetition." ~ John Duffy, All Music Guide
