This Tommy Boy Silver compilation reaches wide across the house spectrum to assemble a collection of tracks it tags as "filtered." Often referred to as filtered house, this particular style tends to feature string-laden disco-style loops that producers will filter through a series of effects, most common being a flange effect or excessive EQing. While the concept for the compilation is questionable since nearly all contemporary house records use filtering to some extent, the resulting track list is indeed impressive: "Sing It Back," "U Don't Know Me," "Music Sounds Better With You," "Don't Call Me Baby," "Big Love," "Sun Is Shining," and "Horny" all being massive crossover club hits, and the others being only slightly lesser known. Granted, the choices are undoubtedly obvious, but this should make a perfect collection for anyone with only a casual or passing interest in house music. Plus, the fact that it's a mixed CD only makes it a stronger listen. Still, those who consider themselves fairly seasoned house fan may want to pass on this collection since it features such few surprises. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
