This collection of 1970s soft-rock favorites is enjoyable in a retro sense, but can't quite separate itself from the glut of decade-based compilations out there, since it features mostly re-recorded versions of these one hit wonders. It's really only satisfying as background music, since any closer of a listen will reveal the songs' inadequacies. After all, part of what made these one-offs popular in the first place were their unique idiosyncrasies. Without these intangibles, much of Pop Goes the 70's wears out its welcome pretty quickly. ~ Johnny Loftus , All Music Guide
