    All Music Guide Review

This lavishly packaged compilation was put together by indie pop scenester Mario Hernandez and features his great group From Bubblegum to Sky. The groups involved are either very indie pop like Irving and the Ray Makers or electro pop like DJ You and DJ Me or Anubian Lights (who do a nice job of re-creating the sound of Radioactivity-era Kraftwerk). With only one exception, all the tracks are very good, and luckily that track, the ridiculous "Magnetize Your Food" by the Evolution Control Committee, is at the end of the disc, so you can just skip it. Highlights include the return of Rocketship, whose "Pretty Sara" finds them still sounding great; Jamie McCormick's (he's Mario's former partner in Ciao Bella) loping, horn-filled track "Sugar and Spice"; From Bubblegum to Sky's super catchy "Girls & Shoo Be Doo Wop"; and Japanese Tigers' "Charles Bronson." You should keep an eye out for more recordings by these guys, as judging by this track, they sound like an indie pop version of Cheap Trick at their ultra melodic best. And they manage to rhyme "Charles Bronson" with "Mick Ronson." As a bonus to the consumer, the booklet contains a recipe by each band, including a really strange looking but somehow mouth-watering pumpkin soup donated by Irving. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
