On 1994's This Way Out, Idaho was down to just singer Jeff Martin. However, the new players employed here give a noticeable boost to his slo-core tendencies, particularly on the rockin' "Pomegranate Bleeding." Other tracks such as "Catapult" also benefit from a shot in the arm. In fact, the more expansive sound makes this album the finest Idaho release to date. The overall result is a bit less sleepy than previous efforts, though Martin's downtrodden vision, reminiscent of Mark Eitzel, is still firmly in place. His distinct guitar sound -- emanating from a four-stringed instrument with odd tunings -- is still here also, as are his great chordal instincts. Just when you think you know where a song is going, Martin offers up a splendid twist. Other highlights include "Shame," "A Sound Awake," and "Get You Back." ~ Erik Hage, All Music Guide
