    All Music Guide Review

The garage band explosion in the 1960s, when it seemed every street in America had a band or two rehearsing in a basement, was close to being a true urban folk movement with countless young combos turning three chords and a guitar lead into a song or two that would then be recorded and released on any number of regional and independent labels. Most of these singles were truthfully pretty bad, but what carried many of them was the sheer energy on display and the obvious joy of being in a working band. This fourth volume in the Cicadelic '60s has the usual assortment of rare gems, including the Tidal Waves' jaunty version of "Farmer John," the Laughing Kind's organ heavy and fuzz-toned "Empty Heart," the Front Page News' infectious "Thoughts," and the Tears' Beatlesque "Weatherman." Not everything reverberates, but this is a delightful set all the same. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
