Produced for the BBC, this video version of Costello's latest offbeat project is, for the most part, an audience-free performance of the album (the exception is "Jackson, Monk and Rowe"). The dryness of the setting seems intended to focus attention on the music, but the tendency is for attention to focus, instead, on Costello -- very, very distracting. Musically, it's closer to Michael Nyman; lyrically, it's muted Elvis Costello; visually, it hints at the influence of Peter Greenaway, but never quite gets up the impetus to go all the way. ~ Steven McDonald, All Music Guide
