    All Music Guide Review

Respected Los Angeles DJ Mike Nardone once again displays his taste for interesting production and boasting, matter-of-fact rapping on We Came from Beyond, Vol. 2. While it's not the most wide-reaching sampler of underground rap, it does contain more than its fair share of highlights, many previously unreleased. Esoteric, Celph Titled, and Apathy's opener combines a jaunty saxophone with the rappers' sober lyrics, and Oh No's heavy-handed follow-up feels like a whole room of hip-hop fans bouncing up and down in unison. Great tracks, but seven tracks in a row of this intensity weaken their impact. The Black Love Crew's ultra-smooth "Afro Joint" and Apani Be Fly MC's thoughtful "Picture This" add some much-needed pacing and relief. Oh No contributes another winner with a Steve Reich versus D.A.F. production on Metaphor's contribution, and appearances by the People Under the Stairs and Aesop Rock reinforce their lofty status. "Afro Joint" is the only masterwork here, but the rest of the album provides a fine divergence while awaiting underground rap's next masterpiece. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
