    Half String, along with other American acts like Ocean Blue and Riverside, draw a huge influence from the British dream pop and shoegazing scenes of the early '90s (Ride, Lush, Chapterhouse) -- the band's ability to plant itself so firmly in this genre without sounding derivative is rather remarkable. On the Tripped Up Breathing EP, the band explores a slightly darker side of these influences than on the following full-length, A Fascination with Heights -- the EP's sound, however, is a little less focused than that of the record. ~ Nitsuh Abebe, All Music Guide
