All Music Guide Review

"Vendetta" was one of 1994's Top Ten singles, a furious groove that New Order would love to steal, mixed with soaring, ringing, weaving guitar lines, and (by far) the most vulnerable vocals Piotr Fijalkowski ever attempted, as if surveying the wreck that was once his secure love life. He succeeds in spades. This bugger cooks from the opening "whack," and the feeling is like rocketing to the bottom of a hill on a sled, the cold wind rushing through your hair. Extraordinary, and a perfect introduction to Fake. The non-LP "The Floating Game" is a hushed, affecting acoustic track; here Fijalkowski sounds uniquely forlorn, another new quality for his once cocksure voice. "This House is Rotten" is more standard Adorable icy guitar blasts, with a payoff chorus, possibly a metaphor for the music biz or for England -- take your pick. What with the turmoil at Creation, the lack of a U.S. deal, and the antipathy in the U.K. press for the band (pitch-'em-'n'-ditch-'em wanker hacks), such feeling wouldn't be surprising. Someone tell the bandmembers that their quality work has inspired loyal fans who stand by them, and they should keep pouring it on. Indeed, it is "glorious." ~ Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, All Music Guide
