The Precious Mountain EP marks a turning point in Quickspace's sound, integrating the intense grooves of their early work with the prominent guitars of their later material. Crisper production values strip some of the sonic haze away from Quickspace and give a new, muscular force to the band. Fittingly for an EP that includes a song called "Ennio's Blues," Precious Mountain mixes fuzz, grooves and space for a sound that's part Kraut-rock and part spaghetti Western. The title track saddles a relentless guitar line with harmonica, theremin and evocative backing vocals, while the band's quirky sense of humor re-emerges with "You Used My Death as a Pretext to Go Running," which combines a rolling groove and endless shouts of the title. "Ennio's Blues" offers exactly what the title implies, a galloping, funky version of "Precious Mountain" that adds bluesy harmonica and distorted vocals. Precious Mountain suggests that Quickspace can find endless variations on their sound and keep it fresh for everyone involved. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
