Southern Gospel's Top 20 Songs of the Century includes the songs most often named by respondents to a survey done by the New Haven label. The results include many songs that charted on The Singing News' Top 40, including number one hits "Jesus Is Coming Soon" (it topped the charts in January 1970 with a version by the Oak Ridge Boys), "I Know" (Febrary 1971, the Blue Ridge Quartet), "Touring That City" (November 1973, the Inspirations), "When He Was on the Cross" (August 1985, the Florida Boys), and "Midnight Cry" (January 1988, Gold City). Also included are other songs that charted by the Hinsons, the Rambos, the Kingsmen, and more, and well-known songs like "We Shall See Jesus," "Sweet Sweet Spirit," and the oldest inclusion, "The Church in the Wildwood," which was penned in 1857. ~ Joslyn Layne, All Music Guide
