The Strokes are an American rock band widely regarded as one of the most influential groups in the early 2000s garage rock revival. Formed in New York City in 1998, the band’s core lineup includes vocalist Julian Casablancas, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. Their music is characterized by stripped-down arrangements, catchy guitar riffs, and a blend of indie rock and classic garage influences.

The band rose to prominence with their debut album “Is This It” (2001), which received widespread critical acclaim and is often cited as one of the most important albums of its era. Featuring tracks like “Last Nite,” “Someday,” and “Hard to Explain,” the album helped redefine rock music in the early 21st century with its raw sound and effortless style.

The Strokes continued their success with albums such as “Room on Fire” (2003) and “First Impressions of Earth” (2006), maintaining their signature sound while exploring new musical directions. Their work often emphasizes concise songwriting, tight instrumentation, and a cool, understated aesthetic that became highly influential among emerging indie bands.

After a period of reduced activity, the band returned with later releases including “Angles” (2011) and “The New Abnormal” (2020), the latter earning critical acclaim and demonstrating their continued relevance. Their ability to evolve while retaining their core identity has contributed to their longevity in the music industry.

Today, The Strokes are celebrated as pioneers of modern indie rock, with a legacy defined by innovation, style, and cultural impact. Their influence can be seen across countless bands that followed, solidifying their place as one of the most important rock acts of the 21st century.
