Johnny Marr Announces Fifth Solo Album The Age Of Everything With New Single Spin
The Age Of Everything is a ten‑song collection conceived in London, polished on a U.S. tour across the East Coast, and finally laid down in Marr’s native Manchester. It follows the 2022 double album Fever Dreams Pts 1‑4 and stands as his first full‑length studio release since then. Marr has called the record his most cathartic effort yet, saying the title “summed up the way I think a lot of people are feeling” and captures the friction between technology, culture, and creativity.
Released concurrently with the album announcement, “Spin” is billed by Marr as an “urgent opening statement” that spotlights his signature guitar flourishes and a propulsive rhythm section. Lyrically, the song confronts the relentless tempo of contemporary life and the difficulty of charting a path through an information‑saturated age, acting as a thematic portal into the rest of the record.
Marr launched his solo journey with The Messenger in 2013, then Playland (2014), Call the Comet (2018), and Fever Dreams Pts 1‑4 (2022). These albums have broadened his profile beyond his iconic role as the guitarist of the 1980s Manchester outfit The Smiths. Although the Smiths continue to shape his legacy, Marr has made it clear that the band will not be resurrected.
Beyond his solo catalog, Marr remains a sought‑after collaborator, contributing to projects with Modest Mouse, The Cribs, Electronic, The Pretenders, The The, Pet Shop Boys, and Hans Zimmer, among others. He continues to share the stage with a rotating lineup of musicians while crafting fresh material.
